So why is this better than just simply accessing your data via the Internet on an exposed port? Well, the big difference is that VPN traffic is encrypted and best of all you can access your resources the same way as you would if you have a local connection. This means that it will allow you to connect from a remote location to your home or business and use any services, data or devices like you never left.
What confuses most people is the difference between vpn server and client.
